Marny J. Heit
PERSONAL BACKGROUND
Marny Heit was born in Miami, Florida, November 22, 1976; she was
admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2001. She is a member of the Bar
of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. Ms.
Heit is a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense
Lawyers and Defense of Drinking Driver's Group.
EXPERIENCE
Ms. Heit joined Chestney-Hawkins in August of 2001. Since that time,
she has handled 40 DUI cases from start to finish, and has been
lead counsel in numerous jury and bench trials. Her practice is
limited to representing and protecting the rights of those accused
of alcohol and drug related offenses. While in law school, Ms. Heit
interned for the DeKalb County Public Defender's Office and the
Federal Defender, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. She also clerked at
the Capital Defense Unit of the Legal Aid Society of New York, New
York.
EDUCATION
Syracuse University (B.A., 1998); Emory University School of Law
(J.D., 2001). Honors include: Induction into the Order of Barristers
and Order of Advocates for excellence in courtroom advocacy, membership
in the Lamar Inn of Courts, award for Best Speaker at the 2000 Irving
R. Kaufman National Securities Moot Court Competition, and successful
completion of the NCDD Summer Curriculum (July 2002.)
